Miles for Hope Run/Walk

Miles for Hope Run/Walk LogoMiles For Hope, a non-profit organization dedicated to funding cutting-edge brain tumor research, will hold its Moving Towards a Cure® 5K Brain Tumor Awareness Run/Walk on Saturday, October 22, 2011 at 9:00 a.m. at the Fred G. Bond Metro Park in Cary, NC. Portion of the proceeds will fund brain tumor research at the Preston Robert Tisch Brain Tumor Center at Duke University.
The 5K event is open to all ages. Online registration is encouraged at www.BrainTumorEvents.org/Raleigh.  Same-day registration opens at 8:00 a.m.  The 5K begins at 9:00 a.m. Registration for adults is $20. Fee increases to $25 after October 7th. Registration is free for children under 6 years old. Participants can walk/run individually or form a team. Post-event celebration to follow the race and includes an award presentation to remember those battling brain cancer as well as those who lost their battle. Package pickup will be held at Omega Sports in Crossroads, Cary on Oct. 21st.

Lacross USA LogoU.S. Lacrosse’s annual Stars & Stripes event is moving to Durham, North Carolina in 2011 and will be hosted at Duke University on October 8-9th. Scheduled to compete are the U.S. men’s and women’s national senior teams, which include members of the most recent FIL championship squads, as well as the Duke men’s team, the University of North Carolina women’s team, and Navy’s women’s team.  Games will be played on the lacrosse fields located beside Koskinen Stadium. 
In addition to a full slate of exhibition games, the national teams will also host instructional clinics for youth and high school players prior to Saturday’s competition.

Here’s a preliminary schedule of the weekend’s events:

Saturday, October 8th
1:00-3:00 p.m. — Youth and High School Player Clinics
5:00 p.m. – U.S. Women’s Blue Team vs. University of North Carolina
7:00 p.m. – U.S. Women’s White Team vs. University of North Carolina
Sunday, October 9th
9:00 a.m. – U.S. Women’s Blue Team vs. Navy
11:00 a.m. – U.S. Men’s Team vs. Duke University 1:30 p.m. – U.S. Women’s White Team vs. Navy

Player Clinics
Do you want to learn from the best? If so, then participate in a 2-hour player clinic that will be run by some of the best players in the world - members of the U.S. Men’s and Women’s National Teams.

Clinics are Saturday, Oct. 8th, and will be held on the lacrosse practice fields located beside Koskinen Stadium at Duke University.  Separate clinics for boys and girls, Grades 3-8 and Grades 9-12 for each, will be held.  Clinics are from 1:00 to 3:00 p.m.  The cost for each clinic is $50 if pre-registered, which includes a t-shirt, poster, and other opportunities to win official Team USA gear. Walk-up registration, if spots are still available, will be $60.  Clinic fees are not refundable unless US Lacrosse has to cancel the clinic due to weather. Make sure to bring your stick, protective equipment, -mouthguard, and water bottle. Clinic participants will also receive free admission to all Team USA games during the weekend!
