Cookies for Cancer LogoCookiesforKidsCancer.org began from one woman’s fight against her child’s cancer.  Their website tells of their beginning: “Cookies for Kids’ Cancer, a 501(c)3 non profit, was founded by parents inspired by their son Liam’s battle with cancer. They were shocked to learn that the main reason over 25% of kids diagnosed with cancer do not survive is because of a lack of effective therapies. And the reason for the lack of therapies was very simple: lack of funding. They pledged to support the development of new and better treatments by giving people a simple way to get involved.”
Omega Sports has joined with Cookies for Kids Cancer. Your support and donations will help scientists and top pediatric oncologists at leading Pediatric Cancer Centers accelerate and deepen their investigation into new and less toxic therapies in an all out effort to save the lives of innocent children.
If you shop through the month of September at the following stores, including our Omega Sports - Park Road location on September 23rd, Cookies for Kids Cancer will get a portion of the proceeds from that day.  Click here to see a full calendar for the month of September.

1 in 9 LogoMark your calendars for SATURDAY, SEPTEMBER 24th for the area’s newest 5K fun-run! Located in the Glenwood South district of Raleigh, the 5K course will wind through the historic tree-lined neighborhood of Cameron Park.  Following the 5:00p.m. run, celebrate victory at the Pink Shamrock Street Party – featuring food, beverage, and live music!

Not up for the actual run? No Problem!  Support 1in9 by registering as a “Lazy Leprechaun” and kick back, grab a beverage, and enjoy the street party & cheer on the runners as they compete to claim the 2011 HIBERNIAN CUP Trophy.

Want to win the HIBERNIAN CUP? Simply form a team at work or with friends and compete for the HIBERNIAN CUP Trophy, an awesome two-foot trophy which will be displayed at the Hibernian Pub with your team name engraved on it.  Plus the winner takes a duplicate trophy home for one year along with bragging rights to the coolest trophy in North Carolina!

The Pink Shamrock 5K is sponsored by the Hibernian Pub & Omega Sports and benefits the 1in9 Breast Cancer Organization – a local non-profit group which assists women in North Carolina struggling to meet the staggering non-medical costs that accompany a diagnosis of breast cancer. Founded by Eric & Stephanie Beguelin of Raleigh, 1in9 assists with transportation, lodging, meals and/or prescription costs, enabling deserving women to complete their breast cancer treatments at UNC Cancer Hospital.  Check out 1in9’s website at www.1in9.com and on Facebook to learn more about this amazing organization.
To register: Go to http://www.pinkshamrock5k.org to register as a runner or as a Lazy Leprechaun, to form a team to compete for the HIBERNIAN CUP or make a donation to 1in9.  Additional Corporate Sponsors and race-day volunteers are needed – so sign up or contact www.1in9.com to make a difference today!

LUNGevity LogoBreathe Deep Cary NC is one of the many grassroots events that LUNGevity Foundation supports around the country to raise money for lung cancer research.  Founded in November of 2000 by seven Chicago area survivors of Lung Cancer, the LUNGevity Foundation seeks to increase awareness and funding for lung cancer research. Breathe Deep Cary began in 2007 in memory of the parents of the volunteer event coordinator, Liz McCabe. Since then, Breathe Deep Cary NC has doubled in both the number of participants and the amount of money it has raised. The Breathe Deep Cary NC committee members have all loved and lost someone dear to lung cancer.   LUNGevity moves forward firmly resolved to provide the energy, inspiration, and resources that are critical to making lung cancer a national priority. Their goal: To Stop Lung Cancer Now.

“It is time to engage the running community of Cary to participate in a 5K that supports lung cancer research. With the support of Omega Sports, I am confident runners in Cary will enjoy our event!”  -Liz McCabe, Volunteer Event Coordinator.
Race timing will be managed by Precision Race, and runners can look forward to an exciting course through WakeMed Soccer Park in Cary on Saturday, October 8.
For more information about the event or to register, please visit twww.lungevity.org/cary.
